Description
Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino is a profound and meticulously crafted expression of Argentina’s flagship grape, combining power, elegance, and remarkable precision. The wine is produced using 20% whole clusters and 80% whole berries, all hand-loaded directly into new French oak barrels (225–500 litres), where it undergoes 100% barrel fermentation over a period of 30 days. This unique approach allows for seamless oak integration and exceptional aromatic depth.
Fermentation takes place at low temperatures to preserve intense aromas and purity of fruit, while cap management is performed entirely by hand, ensuring gentle extraction of flavours and finely textured tannins. Using wild yeasts, both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur in barrel, leaving the wine in contact with its lees, adding complexity, richness, and structure. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
The result is a deeply expressive Malbec with layered aromas, refined tannins, and a harmonious balance between fruit intensity, oak, and freshness. Powerful yet polished, it offers great depth and ageing potential, standing as a benchmark example of high-altitude Argentine Malbec.
